Track Description
After years of making in the den of geeks and the university laboratories of talented academicians, the Open Source is now gaining momentum in acceptance around the globe. OSS has reached a level of maturity comparable to its bigger cousin UNIX. Everyday many success stories are coming out from many different corners of the world about how a school or a single government department is embracing and reaping the benefits of OSS. There is not a single day passed by where a new convert has not been added to the list of OSS users. In the home front Malaysian Government is adopting OSS gradually in many departments and it encourages enterprises and businesses to move toward OSS. Now there is a slue of vendors peddling OSS products in the market and FUD spread by its enemies is not having much effect on people. To complement OSS, the community of open source advocates and programmers are moving toward Open Standards for compatibility reasons and to throw away the shackles of proprietary software. Soon any application developed for one OS platform will be compatible with any other version of OS platform with minimal or no change at all.
Keeping this in mind our theme for OSS track will be adoption and application of OSS in diverse field like education, government, enterprises and SMEs and its strategic importance in shaping the future of knowledge society to maintain a sustainable growth.
